My Camera Information

I've been asked by several people now about the camera I use and how I take my flower pictures. As I said yesterday....I don't know anything....but I stumbled on this way of taking pictures and it works for me!!
  • Canon PowerShot S3 IS
  • 6.0 mega pixels
  • 12X optical zoom

I take my pictures on the Automatic setting, I turn Macro ON. Here is where it gets funny since I don't know what I'm doing!! I stand back and zoom the object in until it says 35 in - 00. Then when it's clear and the size I want I take the picture! I rarely use the flash on my pictures for the blog.

For my cards I have a really professional set up, I'm sure you all won't be impressed!! Ready?!

LOL! It's two pieces of white cardboard that I prop up at a right angle. I arrange my card with any prop I have laying on my heap of a desk that might be related. I stand 8-10 feet back, turn Macro ON, zoom the object in until it says 35 in - 00 and take the picture! I do not use a flash since I have an overhead light above my fancy *light box.*

I do take my photos into Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10 and do some very basic things.

  • click *improve exposure and brightness* button
  • click *improve color balance* button
  • click *crop* button
  • click *straighten picture feature* under Format section if needed
  • add my transparent watermark image to photo

I play these by ear since I sometimes don't like their version of improved exposure and brighness and/or color balance. I do always crop though....I especially like to do this with the flowers.....a whole plant is just dandy....but I find the extreme beauty in the single bloom.

So...I hope this mindless rambling has helped answer some of the questions. I'm feeling pretty silly about what I DON'T know about photography. There is SO much more to learn about my camera and the photo editing program. I tell myself I want to learn....but until I find that treasure-trove of TIME that I'm missing.....I'll settle for this!!!

Okay, now that you showed us your "photo studio" with just a smidge of your stamp room in the picture....I want to see the whole stamp room set up. What are those "pencils" on the right? How do you set up your paper? Especially 12 x12? I love to pick up tips from a pro! Thanks for sharing! Michelle

Thanks so much for sharing. I love the way you do your photos. Wonderful
you aren't rambling. I need your camera though, cuz mine doesn't do that. LOL!! I have a Kodak and it has several options and one is for close up. I use that one and the white cs tip. My 13 yr old tells me how to use it. He has never read a manual, but gets a gadget of any kind and just *knows* how to use it!!!!!
