TWO Fun Tutorials that are Designed2Delight!
It's a fun day to hop the Designed2Delight Design Team's blogs.....we've been busy making embellishments for a challenge Faith is sponsoring at Crafters Digital Art Center's site. So grab a comfy seat and something to sip...enjoy!!I colored my image with Copic Markers....I find that the feathering technique works really well on rounded objects. Just one of many fun ways to make the image appear to be round. Start on the edge and lift your pen up in a feathering motion as you near the center of the image.
My first embellishment is a ribbon frame. This is deceptively easy to do! I used some vintage seam binding, but you can use any ribbon you'd like. I would use ribbon that is about 1/2 inch wide, as you want it to be wide enough to be a nice *frame* for your image.1. Cut the cuttlebugged panel to size and emboss it.
2. Decide where you want your image to be on the panel, but do not attach it. I decided to center my image on the panel.
3. Flip the panel face down and draw an an X from corner to corner.
4. Lay your image as desired over the X to determine where you want your ribbon frame to begin.
5. Using an exacto knife, cut two slits very close to each other, beginning at the corner of your image panel. You are making a narrow slit just a tad bit narrower than your ribbon. You don't want this to be too wide or you will have nasty gappage!
6. I place tape along the edges as shown in this bad photo.
7. Next cut strips of ribbon a bit longer than all of your sides.
8. Tie a loose knot in the center of each piece and thread them through your slits.
9. Be sure to apply them to the tape as shown in the photo above so that you have the space for your next piece to be threaded through.
10. Trim your edges and flip it over to see your completed ribbon frame! You can attach your stamped panel to the front of the card either after you've cut your slits or at the end of the card.
And for a *double delight* I've also made a fun embellishment using a SU! Scalloped Circle Punch.
You will need: straight edge, pencil, SU! scallop circle punch, glue dot, exacto blade and a brad. Sorry I don't have the size handy....I'm still on my way home from CHA...but I think it's about 3/4 inch. I will update this when I get home!
1. With your strait edge (clear is easiest) I drew a line six scallops apart on the backside of your designer paper.
2. Skipping two scallops, repeat this until you are all of the way around and have the star pattern emerge as shown in the photo below.
3. Next cut the star lines with your exacto blade as shown below. DO NOT cut them all of the way...otherwise your hearts will fall off! I only cut them down to where the brad will cover and you won't have a problem.
4. Insert your brad and fold up the star peaks as shown.
5. Place a glue dot in the center of the brad and attach your star peaks.
7. Cover the center with another glue dot and a glitter dot.
8. Finally, find the center of your second scalloped circle, punch a hole and then layer your flower through the hole and flatten your brad legs.
